Welcome to Our Conservation Appeal Page

The Need
Over a long period of time rain water has taken its toll on the fabric of the building and this has resulted in the two windows at the front of the building rotting badly and the lime render, which protects the cob wall delaminating and falling from the building.
The Appeal
We need to raised the necessary funds to undertake the necessary conservation work on the building.
The local Conservation Officer considers that for conservation reasons the windows need to be repaired and not replaced.
Lime Render
The lime render is delaminating critically on all elevation of the Hall requiring the current render to be fully removed and new lime render applied.
The Financial Target
We need to raise £30,000 to undertake the necessary conservation work.
It is considered that the windows are not original to the building. A barn is not likely to have such windows. However it is considered that the windows are of heritage value given the design, moldings ad glass and most likely have come from another building.
The photographs show the rot on the windows mainly on the sills and bottom rails and rising up the mullions. Both windows in the front elevation are affected in the same way. Due to the heritage significance of the building and the contribution the windows make to this judgement the Conservation Office considers the windows need to be repaired and not replaced.
Lime Render - Technical Report
The renders on the main building are lime renders which have been lime washed but have now delaminated in areas where moisture has penetrated through hairline cracks within the renders.

Mike Wye and Associates
For the external rendering, the options are either a traditional lime mortar or our ecoCORK insulating lime render which offers advantages including improved thermal and acoustic insulation and being lighter it places less stress on the important interface between the cob or stone substrates and render where delamination is more likely to occur.
